Background
Pathology means the study of disease. The term is comprised of “Pathos” (Disease) and “Logos” (Knowledge). It is the science of structural changes and functional disorders resulting in diseases in tissues and organs, the reasons of these changes (ethiology) and their development mechanisms (pathogenesis). Pathology evaluates structural and functional alterations underlying diseases in the level of organs, tissues, and cells. Pathology functions as a bridge between basic and clinical sciences. In our Pathology Laboratory exfoliative cytology, fine needle aspiration cytology, biopsy, operation specimens, consultative materials sent from various clinics for diagnosis and treatment are examined by microscopic technics. In addition to conventional light microscopy, histochemical and immunohistochemical stains, immunofluorescence microscopy, molecular pathological studies are also performed. Intraoperative frozen section studies are examined in our frozen room in the operating theater. In Department of Pathology specialization education of Pathology is given. Training for Pathology Laboratory Technics is also available in our laboratory. Our department is devoted to the ethical values of medicine and humanity. We follow the scientific developments in the medical literature and try to adapt them in our daily practice.
